The Tuya-Muyun karst region is a fairly well-known area among geologists engaged in hydrothermocarst. Unique mineral formations of Tuya-Muyun were investigated by the international karstological-speleological expedition of the Pamiro-Alai -1989.
Scientists geologists from 10 countries studied the geological structure of the Tuya-Muyun mountain range, and also carried out a series of studies of mineral formations of various genesis.
Tuya-Muyun is represented by a hypogene karst. The limestone massif is part of the South-Fergana hydrothermomineral belt, which closes it to the east.
Scientists have studied 8 caves with the formation of minerals and cave formations, formed in conditions of hydrothermocarstic processes.
Tuy-Muyun still attracts researchers to an interesting karst. In the southern part of Tuya-Muyun the cave Pobednaya was found. Today its length is about 1700 m.
But, further exploration of the cave stopped because of a lack of time during the previous expedition.
One of the beautiful caves of Surprise, is located on the vertical rocks of Dangi canyon at a height of 50 m above the river, which cuts the karst massif into two parts.
The researchers suggest that on the vertical walls of the canyon there must be entrances to new caves. To survey these entrances, it is possible only with the help of special equipment and professional speleologists. During the reconnaissance trip in 2017, we saw several small entrances.
A distinctive feature of the caves of the hydrothermocarstic genesis in Tuya-Muyun are very small entrances, behind which volumetric cavities begin.
On the plateau of the limestone massif there is an entrance to the Fersman cave, the depth of which is 260 m. Technically, the cave is rather complicated, where ropes and special climbing techniques are required. The deepest vertical well of the cave, about 70 m.
In this regard, we plan to organize an expedition to Tuya-Muyun, in order to continue research of the entire karst area with the help of modern equipment.
Tuya-Muyun is a legendary place for many geologists, it is a very beautiful landscape and an interesting geological history.
Particular attention should be paid to the history of studying the area. Soviet Academician Yevgeny Fersman, for the first time explored the area and discovered the world famous cave Bolshaya Baritovaya. The cave was a unique deposit of barite in the form of crystals.
Unfortunately, the cave was destroyed as a result of the mine’s work.
At present, Tuy-Muyun is a nature reserve. In some caves there are colonies of rare species of bats, which are included in the red book. Dangi canyon is an interest as a geological monument.
Today, Dangi Canyon is a poorly explored area. During the Soviet Union, local cavers did not have the appropriate equipment.
Even today, the vertical walls of the canyon hide small inconspicuous entrances to the caves.
